The Bulgarian School Rodna Rech will be starting its school year on Sunday, September 17, 2023.  We will hold classes in the following formats:   

Group I: Teacher Tzveta  

Our classes for Group I will be taught by Tzveta, with Vera's and Ina's assistance as needed, and will be held at the Mechanicsburg Library on Sunday afternoons.  This class includes two subgroups of children (ages 4-6 and 7-9), and the materials and instructions are designed according to the respective age groups.  Parents are highly encouraged to volunteer to help with classes once each month or every other month where possible.   

All classes will be held in person at the Mechanicsburg library at the indicated dates, starting from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.  

The address of the library is 16 N. Walnut Street, Mechanicsburg, PA  17055.  We will have both rooms A&B available for classes, with the exception of October 15, November 12, and December 10 when only room A will be available.   

Group II: Teacher Renie  

This class is for students who can read and write in Bulgarian at an intermediate level.  Group II will start the semester in person at the Mechanicsburg library and continue online from October 15 through November 12, after which it will return to the library for the rest of the year.  The classes for Group II are scheduled from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. 

Conversational Bulgarian with George Kamenov  

The class will be held online on Sundays at 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the indicated dates.  George will circulate a link for the class to all enrolled students.  Please make sure you sign up for the class by completing the enrollment form, emailing it back to me, and paying your tuition.  We expect to have middle and high school students in this class and adult(s).  If you know of anyone interested in signing up for the class, please forward this information to them.

Tuition:   

After five years of keeping tuition rates at the same level, the school will be raising the monthly tuition to offset most, but not all, costs of continuing the school’s operations.  If the raise causes a financial strain to anyone, please reach out to me with a request for assistance.  We do not wish anyone to drop classes in which they are interested due to financial concerns. 

Group I: enrollment fee of $40 and regular monthly tuition of $45   

Group II: enrollment fee of $40 and regular monthly tuition of $65   

Conversational Bulgarian: enrollment fee of $40 and regular monthly tuition of $65  

 The Bulgarian School Rodna Rech will be starting its school year next Sunday, September 18, 2022.  In an effort to accommodate as many students as we can and take into account your preferences, we will hold classes in these formats:  

Group I and Pre-School: Teacher Tzveta 

This class will be divided into two sub-groups of younger kids who are not ready to write and read and older kids who will continue to improve their existing reading and writing skills. 

All classes will be held in person at the Mechanicsburg library at the indicated dates starting from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.  The address of the library is 16 N. Walnut Street, Mechanicsburg, PA  17055.  

Because this will be a combined class of two sub-groups, we strongly encourage parents to volunteer.  If your children need assistance going to the bathroom, please stay onsite to assist whenever possible. 

Group II: Teacher Renie 

This group will start online for the months of September and October and resume at the Mechanicsburg library for the rest of the school year at the indicated dates.  This class is for students who can read and write in Bulgarian at an intermediate level.  A link for the class will be circulated to all enrolled students.  Please make sure you sign up for the class by completing the enrollment form, emailing it back to me, and paying your tuition. 

Online classes for September and October will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. 

In-person classes for November and December will be from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Mechanicsburg library.

Group III: Conversational Bulgarian with George Kamenov 

This is a new class that our school will be offering this year.  The class will be held online on Sundays at 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the indicated dates.  A link for the class will be circulated to all enrolled students.  We expect to have middle and high school students in this class, as well as adults.

Traveling Library 

We will be starting a “traveling library” for our students in November.  Every student can borrow a bag with two or three books in Bulgarian, read them (or have them read to them), and return the bag in exchange for another.  The bags will be distributed at the regularly-scheduled Sunday classes at the Mechanicsburg library.  Please stay tuned for another email detailing the program.

 На 1-ви ноември България чества Деня на народните будители – книжовниците и просветителите, борците за национално освобождение, които са изградили и съхранили духовните ценности и националното самосъзнание на българите. Ден за почит към големите българи, които през вековете са вдъхновявали народа ни да търси знанието за себе си и за света, и с чийто усилия винаги сме успявали да запазим националната си идентичност.

Първи ноември е онзи ден, в който спокойно можем да седнем и да обърнем поглед назад, в десетилетията, във вековете и да помислим за миналото, за да видим не само празника, но и символа. Символът на вярата, символът на спомена за миналото, което ще проправи пътя на бъдещето, символ на онова, което стои точно пред нас, но върху което ние така и не се замисляме. И най – вече да ни накара да си спомним, да се поучим, да се преклоним и да подражаваме, да продължаваме и никога да не забравяме.

Да не забравяме и дълбок поклон пред всички учители , на които думата будител най – приляга. "Будител" има санскритски корен - буда, който означава зрящ, буден. Това ни дава основание да приемем, че „народното звание" будител имат честта да носят всички учители, „зрящи" духовни водачи, изковаващи от слово най-мощното оръжие.

Сред имената на най-почитаните народни будители са Свети Иван Рилски, Владислав Граматик, Паисий Хилендарски, Неофит Рилски, братята Димитър и Константин Миладинови, Георги С. Раковски, Васил Левски, Христо Ботев, Стефан Караджа, Хаджи Димитър, Иван Вазов, Любен Каравелов и още стотици радетели за народна свяст и българско самосъзнание.

За първи път Денят на народните будители се чества през 1909 година в Пловдив. През 1922 година Стоян Омарчевски, министър на просвещението, внася предложението за отбелязване на 1 ноември като празник на народните будители.

Славата на пръв будител на нацията заслужено носи Паисий Хилендарски. Народът ни го знае и почита като Отец Паисий. В далечните времена преди повече от два века и половина, през 1762 г., Паисий Хилендарски написва своята „История славянобългарска”. Негов пръв следовник е епископ Софроний Врачански. В трудни за българите времена, той пише книги за просвета и работи за политическо освобождение. Поклон пред пазителите на българската духовна и културна традиция. Нека славим паметта им и сме благодарни за святото им дело. Поклон пред паметта на всички светци, възрожденци, революционери, творци, борци и герои. Нека нека жалим сили да го продължим и съхраним светлия български дух и стремежа за усвояване на нови знания. Нека опазваме и обогатяваме българската духовност и култура и предадем копнежа за откриване на нови хоризонти на поколенито след нас! Честит празник и слава на всички предишни и всички настоящи будители и учители!
